Gold plated full Albert watch chain.
Fob Chain History
The Double Albert fob chain was named after Queen Victoria's husband Prince Albert, who preferred a pocket watch chain with a T-bar and two chains of equal length, worn with each chain in a seperate waistcoat pocket. The purpose of the second chain was to secure the watch's winding key, as crown-winding watches were not introduced until the mid-1800's. Once the watch key had become widely redundant, it became fashionable to clip other personal effects to the second chain, such as pocket knives, fountain pens, or photographs and momentos.
Chain length end to end - 15 3/4" (40cm). Boxed.
